Welcome 2010

Well...almost a month ago we closed the door on 2009 and graciously opened them up for 2010. After staying up to say "good-bye/hello" and seeing no difference I went looking for some inspiration and found this wonderful little quote by Edith Lovejoy Pierce:

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

It is true indeed that at the end of a new year is the opportunity, be it an opportunity to do more sewing, an opportunity to spend more time with family and friends, or other opportunities. I also liked the saying by Ellen Goodman:

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential.

Upon walking into our doors at the start of 2010 you'll find some "crazy" fun new samples. . .starting with this crazy quilt Phyllis (Darci's mom) finished. It was her dream to construct a quilt of this nature and she has finally got it completed. All of the pieces were carefully hunted for, cut, and sewn together. All the stitching is done by hand. It not only contains beautifully sewn crazy quilt stitches but personal dates of birthday's and her anniversary. It is truly a one of a kind quilt that will be a treasured family heirloom. If you are in close distance of the shop it is worth a trip to see!

We've also completed our quilt for Astor Manor!! The quilt pattern is Darci's design which Lacey absolutely fell in love with. The border of this quilt is out of Chenille. It is a very fun addition to a quilt, was easy to work with, washes nice, and adds a new and fresh touch to a quilting project.

Lacey took the "opportunity" to branch out of her box and work with fabrics that she typically doesn't work with. The quilt above is Happy Camper's by American Jane and her original quilt is called "I Spy". What started off as a children's book turned into a wall-hanging that was very fun and very simple to do. Every now and again stepping out of the box is a good thing!

The focus in this picture is to be the "Follow Your Heart" original woolfelt creation by Darci.
This fun little wall-hanging was a hit at our monthly wool group and put all of us in the mood to see some spring time birds, and new green buds coming to life on our dead looking trees.

Darci had Lacey pinwheeling out her box again before winter break ended. Lacey typically avoids pinwheel blocks, and doesn't work with 30s...both of which were used in the table topper above. Both gals thoroughly enjoyed their 20 below day sewing on these and other quilting projects and finished with a topper and runner to boot!! Both are fun and easy to do and are a great way to use up that stash. The one on the left is a This & That, and the one on the right is an original by our very own PastThyme patterns gal Darci.
LOOK AT WHAT WE HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO!!!
This is the 2010 exclusive Quilt Minnesota fabrics!!! The fabrics have been designed by
Holly Taylor this year and will begin to arrive in shops in May and July. We are taking
pre-orders on the fabrics which will sell for $9.49 per yard and will be shipped or picked up starting July 30th.
Not only can you look forward to touching the fabrics in the future but blog posts with our state sample progress!!
.
While we have been busy thinking about state sample ideas we have been using a lot of imagination, as have other gals who have been coming in to pick up fabrics for new projects.
We heard this fun little quote by a very smart man that made us smile.
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
~Albert Einstein
