Turkey Day

We hope that you all had a wonderful time celebrating all of the many things that we can and should be thankful for!!  We most certainly enjoyed our day with our family and of course enjoyed over-eating many delicious foods we only seem to make that one time a year.  One guy in our family was super excited for this day to come as he provided the turkey for the day!!  We decided that this can be his annual job as it was a hit at the table :)

While both of us gals ate at the island we talked about why we only make green bean casserole on Thanksgiving when it's something we really enjoy eating?  Or the homemade dressing?  Sweet Potato Casserole?  Pumpkin pie?  And then laughed at the end of the day when we saw the amount of left overs lining our fridge shelves and decided it must be because we will be eating it for the next week. Super.

Such a good thing we stocked up on $5.00 Papa Murphy pizzas this black Friday morning!! (ha ha)

We really have not gotten a whole lot accomplished here in the shop this week.  Between getting ready for hosting guests and embracing the warm weather (yep-those who don't live here we enjoyed 70 degrees Wednesday (dug out shorts) and barely 25 degrees (dug out 5 layers of clothes, winter coats, hats & mittens) today.

As many of you could probably guess it was Darci who spent the time preparing the house for the guests while Lacey and Joe took to the river boat to fish with Grandpa as their guide--something that just the three of them got to do for the first time ever!!

Because of this, we really don't have a whole lot to show & tell about.  You are again sort of stuck with sneak peeks until we get our wheels rolling the right direction, but until that happens you can enjoy the peeks.
Sadie our faithful canine pal got into the decorating spirit last Sunday while both of us gals dug out our "must keep" collection of Christmas quilts and projects.  Let me tell you by the looks of things we really like our holiday stuff!  As I have been sitting here I've been thinking it might be kind of fun to do a "tour of home" (photo style) to show off projects some of you may have seen decorating our shop walls that are now decorating the home?  Make sure you check back in the next couple of weeks if it's something that interests you. . .

How many of you have ever done a four-patch posy quilt?  Lacey finally got brave and chose some fabrics to start one and we are loving the results we are getting.  It's amazing how many different blocks you can create using one piece of fabric!!  Check back next week for the finished top. . .

Darci was intrigued by the reverse applique quilts she saw at the Threads Across Nebraska quilt show and decided to dig her pattern out and make one for herself.  It's such a different thought process than we typically use for applique, but the project is turning out quite nicely.  We hope to have the finished one to share next week. . .

Holiday Mug Rugs

We were pleasantly surprised by how well you all seemed to like our falling leaves mug rug, and so in spirit of the season we decided to start some Christmas (or winter) ones with Christmas Trees on them.  We are hoping to continue to add some fun rugs as the season goes on.  If you are looking for quick gifts or quick projects these are great!!

This is the quilt from our sneak peek photo from last week's post.  Of course, the week has sort of gotten away from us like you have already read and it isn't bound quite yet.  But you at least can see that this is our newest baby/ little kid quilt.  There are SO many possibilities for this quilt that we both are so in love with!!

You can jazz it up by. . .

Adding a cute ruffle around the edge

Chenille-It in any color you like cuz almost anything goes!!
We recommend yellow or brown or blue or pink

Add  some fun pink, or blue or whatever color your heart desires to the squares surrounding the alphabet squares

See those blank squares?!?  Grab a pigma pen or embroidery thread and add the kid's name, birthday, birth weight/length, etc.

...ooh but the possibilities are endless!!

Ugly Sweater Event

Everybody has those special sweaters stashed in their closets that at one point you may have found fashionable, but no longer do.  In the spirit of "Ugly Sweater Parties" this holiday season we are having our own little special little event with them!!  We will post details Monday--make sure you don't miss out on one of our events of the season!

Also.....we have decided to create a Pinterest Account for the shop.  For those of you who were followers of us on our separate accounts, as of today they are no longer running.
We decided it was more fun & convienent to have everything located in one spot.
SO...make sure if you are into Pinterest you choose to "follow us on Pinterest" and you can see all of our boards which range from things that make us laugh, quotes we like, projects we really like, pins of us!!,  things darci likes, things lacey likes, photography, quilting designs, books/movies to read & see, etc.
Remember you don't have join pinterest to look at our pins!

The link to our page is under our "visit website" photo!

I have sat here in my chair watching the spacer blink while it waits for me to type something.  Do you ever have that trouble??  Now that a valuable half-hour has passed I decided to be honest and tell you all that...not that you needed to know it! I am speechless, and that doesn't happen often.  But we do have a few new things to show and tell about and even a few that are works in progress.  So beings the words aren't flowing here I'll see if my thread and needle flow a bit better on the quilting front. . .

Simply Imagine

"Simply imagine your life as a journey, an adventure to live, to crate and to be inspired. . . seek wisdom, daydream, live in Peace and without fear."

We were drawn to this lovely little saying found on the new Whimsical fabric panel and fell in love with the pretty hues of blue, purple, red, green & brown.  This is a quick little wall hanging we did up using the panel and a few coordinating pieces of fabric and added the touch of cream rick-rack to the inner border for a little pop of fun.

With the "Simply Imagine" panel comes the fun little emblems shown in the project above (peace & create logos) as well as a few others not used.  We decided to pair them up with a chalkboard fabric panel and create a fun little wall quilt project.

Isn't it amazing all of the "chalkboard art" things we can find today?  I was just on pinterest the other day and saw an old refrigerator spray painted in chalkboard paint so kids could doodle on it.  At our favorite occasional shop "The Rusty Truck" we saw old cans painted with a small sector of it to doodle on. . .and now it's invaded the quilting world.  It really is quite fun and we have enjoyed adding some fun random specials to our new board.  Make sure you check it the next time you are in to see what we've got cookin'!

We want to say "Thank You" to all of you who came out to see us at our Holidazzle Gathering last weekend.  For those of you unable to attend, below is the full-scale picture of our sneak peeks from the last post. . .however I'll save you from reading through the same descriptions which can be found on our Nov. 6 post!

This one is a great fat quarter quilt project and is a nice lap size quilt.  We chose to use Merry Medley by Sandy Gervais and find it to be a great overall holiday quilt.  It really takes almost longer to cut and lay out your "A" & "B" block then sew the top together!
3 Hour Gift Bag
found in the 2012 Quilts & More Winter Magazine

Nook or Kindle Cover
found in the 2012 Quilts & More Winter Magazine

The pattern will create either Nook/Kindle cover or an I-Pad cover. If you play your cards right you'll actually get two of the nook/kindle covers from one cut of the required fabrics!!

Now...onto what new fun we've had here in the shop this week!

Double Chocolate Cheater

This little quilt is the cheater from the Double Chocolate fabric by Moda's 3 sisters.  We simple chose a backing and feather stitched over the printed lines. We also chose to use cotton quilt batting so after it was washed it had a sweet crumpled and aged effect which we love!!
Double Chocolate Fritters
By: Pastthyme Patterns

Using the remaining coordinates from the Double Chocolate fabric collection we created a new table runner.  It was a fairly quick runner to put together and is a bit wider than most runner sizes we see in the shop.  We also think it would look great as a bed-runner!  We had a lot of fun using the stripe fabric in our setting triangles to give it a different flavor than the typical solid set-ins. . .
Ginger & Spice
By: Pastthyme Patterns

These little guys were the new debut at wool group this past Wednesday afternoon and evening.  Gingerbread men (or women) have been a popular item this year and after many requests can now be found here in wool form.  We also had fun adding some fun embroidery above and below the heart.

Santa & Co.
By: Sew Unique Creations

It's been a while since we've had (a) a scallop penny rug done here in the shop and (b) had a penny rug with Mr. Santa!!  This little guys is so dang cute and was pretty quick to stitch together!!  With Santa season coming soon this man has been popular here!
Patterns for him are $9.00 and kits are $37.99.

And of course we have some sneak peeks of our works in progress!!

Little Tree
By: Waltzing With Bears

Our busy binder traded in her binding needles for embroidery ones and stitched up this adorable little guy that once finished will be perfect for the holidays. . .
We have also been working on a cute adorable baby quilt!!  Both of us gals are absolutely in LOVE with this quilt and are thinking it must have something to do with it's muted colors.  If you are looking for a baby (or kid quilt--it really can grow with a little one) you may want to check back next week to see this!  It has sooo many possibilities...

We also want to remind you that we are collecting pillowcases and new pairs of mittens to be donated to family services in Chippewa & Kandiyohi counties just in time for Christmas.  Items may be handmade or purchased.  For every item you bring in you'll have your name entered into our basket for a $50.00 shop gift certificate.  If you purchase your supplies here in the shop you'll also receive an extra ticket in the drawing.  Items can be brought in any time now until December 14th.

Until next time. . .

Sneek Peeks

Warm greetings to you all on this chilly, cloudy election Tuesday.
We have been really busy sewing up a storm of samples for our Holidazzle Gathering this coming Saturday November 10th.  We have some sneak peeks of projects below and hope to see many warm, & smiling facesthis weekend!

"Snow Happens"
by: Bird Brain Designs

There really is no man like a snowman is there?!  Something about these little guys just melts your heart.  We have been in love with this blue work snowman pattern since the day it was ordered back when it was 100 degrees outside and these little guys wouldn't have stood a chance at looking this cute outside our shop window.  Like the pattern we chose to stick to the blues and used a lovely Valdani 12-wt Pearle Cotton variegated blue thread (you'll have to check that detail out in person) and classic blues to frame them up.  This pattern also features a different way to make those square-in-a-square blocks much more fun and quick to assemble.

Double Chocolate
By: 3 Sisters of Moda fabrics

Many of you have been waiting for your double dose of chocolate and here it is!  Most of you remember the popular Chocolate line from a few years ago...well this is quite similar but revamped with some new pattern designs.  If you have been looking to create a quilt with some of those left-over scraps of Chocolate or missed the boat the first time around you may want to grab some Double Chocolate!!  We are currently working on a couple new samples out of the fabrics and have a quilt done up with the cheater, or pre-printed hexagon piece of fabric.  We currently are quite limited with the number of charms left in the shop, and still have  few pieces of the candy packages.

Now onto a sneek peek of some of the featured
Holidazzle Gathering projects...sneek peeks because of course we want you to come in and check them out in person!!
Holiday Gift Bag from the 2012 Quilts & More magazine.
These little bags are great for using up pieces of scrap fabric and are quick to whip up to place some gift ware in!  They would also make a nice wine bag for a hostess gift.

Rail Splits
by Pieced Tree Patterns

Truly a very quick and easy table runner to whip up in a short afternoon or evening of sewing!  The fabrics featured are by Lynette Anderson from Lecien fabrics...she is one of our Ausie favorites!

Not necessarily a quick holiday gift giving item, but Lacey has a sneek peek of the hexagon table runner she has been patiently working on and that she hopes to have completed by the weekend.  It uses one of the Moda candy packages and she chose to feature "Tapestry" by Fig Tree & Co.  Hexagons are a huge crazy right now...those who like handwork may want to give this a whirl!

By: Vanilla Rosa Designs

This is a super quick and easy lap quilt that you also can easily piece in an afternoon!  It features a Little Black Dress charm pack and some coordinating yardage for the top and a fun and funky backing!!
Just a heads up as to interest in Little Black Dress charm packs...we have had great response to the fabric collection and charms are going quite quickly.  If it is fabric you are interested in working with or a quilt top you want to work on we suggest picking your pack up soon before it's too late!

Darci has been taking a bite of a honey bun and come up with two fun holiday projects (or non-holiday depending upon fabric choice) for you to use them with!  The table runner above features a Sentiments by 3 sisters of moda fabrics with a fun pointy edge shape and poinsettia applique.
The second project out of the same honey bun that was used in the project above is for this table topper/table cloth for the holidays. It too features fun edging!!

By: Vanilla Rosa Designs

This is another Vanilla Rosa lap quilt pattern that is a breeze to sew up.  It uses up fat quarters and we chose to show off the bells in Sandy Gervais holiday collection Merry Medley.

Also remember, those of you who venture over to the shop on Saturday November 10 that from 5pm - 7pm we are having Candlelight hours and while supplies last you can pick up your FREE wine glass coaster.

~Quote(s) or Thought(s) for the Day~

Looking for a laugh?

You have not had enough coffee until you can thread your sewing machine while it is running!

One our more favorite ones

People are often unreasonable, irrational & self-centered
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.

Give the best you have and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

For in the end it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.
